Installation of Weblogic11g's Portal and Webcenter

What are the minimum of weblogic components required for the installation of Portal and Webcenter?

Weblogic Portal and WebCenter are totally 2 different Products.

Latest version of Weblogic Portal is 10.3.2 which can be installed from this bottom link. This installation do not need any prerequisite software. This installer will install JDK, Weblogic Server, Eclipse IDE and all Portal Framework Components. There is NO weblogic portal 11g

If you mean Weblogic Server, then yes, we do have Weblogic Server 11g latest version that you can download

Coming to WebCenter Suite, it includes multiple components. Its a Suite. See bottom link to see what it includes (Expand small + icon next to the product name).

To run WebCenter applications, you do need Weblogic Server installed. This is the only dependency I am aware of. Ofcourse you need full version of latest JDeveloper that includes all WebCenter ADF modules.

As of now only in portal 10.3.2, if I am not wrong, you can consume WebCenter Portlets in Weblogic Portal using WSRP.

  1. Hello Venkata,

I have to build a new portal, from scratch. My team has strong WLP knowledge and no Webcenter knowledge. Oracle roadmap declared Webcenter as their porrtal strategy, with a WLP end-of-life support in Jan 2014.

Do you think that start with a WLP-based implementation is a good choice now for an internet portal? if so, which strategy could you recommend to mitigate Webcenter suite inminent migration later?

    regards, Hans

  4. Hi Venkat,

Please confirm whether Weblogic Portal 10.3.2 and Weblogic Server are altogether two separate components within Weblogic Server 11g. If we have weblogic poratl 8.x compatible applications to be migrated to 11g what are the binary (software’s, portal, server etc) we need to install.

    regards

  7. HI Venkata,

Thanks a ton. This is indeed a valuable information.

Just one quick question whether Weblogic 11g supports EJB2. In Oracle 11g site, I have seen that it supports EJB3, but I am sure about EJB2.

    Please confirm.

    Thanks & Regards

  9. Hi Venkat,
Do we have Weblogic Portal 11g, itself in Webcenter. Or its Webcenter 11g is a different product which supports Portal applications? Are Weblogic Portal and WebCenter two different products from Oracle which support Portlet development?

  14. I was trying the tutorial of weblogic portal 10.3.2. But it said it requires weblogic server 10.3 not 10.3.2.
Is weblogic portal 10.3.2 not compatible with weblogic server 10.3.2?

    Thanks,
    Mohan
